Methodology: Ratings are based on trust, cost, convenience, and comprehensive service. All test options use CLIA certified labs. Cost ratings are based on affordability compared to other testing options and insurance acceptance. Convenience is rated on the results time and testing location. Comprehensive service rates the number of available tests and the opportunity for physician support. Overall rating is an unweighted average of all rating factors.
How Does Everlywell Testing Work?
Where is the testing done?
Testing is performed at CLIA-certified laboratories that meet or exceed federal validity and accuracy standards. You mail your completed at-home test(s) in a postage-paid package to a lab that partners with Everlywell. Each of these labs complies with all federal and state regulations regarding laboratory testing. Once the processing stage starts, you should typically see your results in your online account within five business days.
Do you need a prescription?
Testing usually requires a written or electronic physician-authorized requisition, but Everlywell works with a network of physicians, and one of them will check your order and authorize all test requisitions. Everlywell currently offers its tests in 49 states, which excludes COVID-19 home collection kits in New York due to the state’s regulations.
Does Everlywell take insurance?
Everlywell isn’t contracted with any insurance companies and can’t bill your health insurance directly. It’s also not enrolled in the Medicare program, and its tests aren’t eligible for Medicare reimbursement. However, Everlywell’s tests are typically priced lower than the out-of-pocket costs you’d pay when testing during an office visit. If you have a health savings account or flex spending account, Everlywell’s tests are usually covered because they’re authorized by a physician. Your insurance provider may reimburse you for COVID-19 tests.
Will Everlywell connect you with a health care provider?
Everlywell works with an independent network of board-certified physicians. A physician checks and approves your lab requisition and reviews your test results. If your COVID-19, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis C, HIV, HPV, trichomoniasis, and/or Lyme disease test(s) returns with a positive result, a consultation from a physician licensed in your state and any applicable prescription(s) are offered at no additional cost.
Are test results accurate?
Everlywell’s at-home sample collection and testing have been meticulously validated against traditional testing completed on-site at clinics and doctor’s offices. Every laboratory Everlywell uses is CLIA-certified, and some are also CAP-accredited, so they must meet or exceed federal standards regarding precision, validity, and accuracy. All labs submit to regular inspections and independent third-party performance verifications to validate the accuracy of their testing.
